Interesting and fun post. I always thought “penis envy” was a joke that nobody took seriously. I know women envy the fact that men can pee standing up, but not the fact that they have a penis. I do know that some men have “clitoris envy” given the number of orgasms a woman can achieve. And “breast envy” given the fact that woman have such nice … okay, I could go on, but maybe I should stop. Tying not to be such a “dick.”

In reply to Lori Bunton. Excellent response. Many years ago when I worked in respidential treatment, we had a psychiatrist, who was mediocre, not bad or good in his job. One say, several of us women were talking about pregnancy and birth, and instead of just talking about the negatives, we talked about what it felt like to be able to do this. Dr, just listened, but then said, "Well, we men can grow beards". Seriously, he was comparing growing a beard to bringing life into the world. I couldn't read his mind and didn't want to, but frankly, if anything talked about envy, and his, as you said was that was womb envy. Thanks for the comment, very insightful

I think I read this as a proof you sent me. Thinking about the fallacy of how women are supposed to envy penis’s (and this is a fallacy because the only thing about men women envied in Freud’s day was their freedom), I truly believe that men envy women’s ability to create life. For centuries, no one really knew how women got pregnant-they just did. And early civilizations actually worshipped female goddesses because they had proof (they saw it with their own eyes) that women created life. Fast forward to men creating their own religions where not only were women not allowed to be part of it (except as worshippers) but changed the entire dynamic so that a male god created the first life. And this is the biggest lie of patriarchy.
